Franklin Park Zoo, Boston, Mass.

The Franklin Park Zoo in Franklin Park, Boston, is New England's largest zoo.

The 72-acre (29-hectare) zoological garden is located six miles (10 km) southwest of Boston Common off MA Route 28 (map).

Franklin Park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted as part of his brilliant Emerald Necklace plan of parks and green spaces for the city of Boston. The zoo was opened in 1913.

Come to see the African lions, leopards, ibex, ostriches, wildebeest, black swans, kangaroos and wallabies, dwarf crocodiles, warthogs, all sorts of tropical birds, Masai giraffes, zebras and western lowland gorillas.

You can reach the zoo by MBTA subway, Commuter Rail train and bus:

Take the subway Orange Line or Commuter Rail train to the Forest Hills station, then Bus 16, or to the Ruggles station and take Bus 22, 28, 29, 44 or 45.

Or take the MBTA subway's Red Line train to the Andrew station, then Bus 16.
